Do you remember when school began right after Labor Day? There was a lot of preparation and one more holiday before starting back into the routine of learning a from a wide variety of topics. September still has that effect on me. I believe learning is something that we do throughout our lives and we may not be going to school to learn reading, writing and arithmetic, but that doesn’t mean that we stop learning.
Learning is something that we are engaged in all the time, whether we are formally taking classes or not. Yet, there is something special about joining together with a group of people to discuss a topic that will challenge us to reexamine what we believe, to expand our awareness of spiritual principles and how they apply in our lives.
H. Emilie Cady says in Lessons In Truth, “In entering upon this course of instruction, each of you should, so far as possible, lay aside, for the time being, all previous theories and beliefs. By so doing, you will be saved the trouble of trying, all the way through the course, to put ‘new wine into old wineskins.’ (LK. 5:3 7). If there is anything as we proceed, that you do not understand or agree with just let it be passively in your mind … for many statements that would at first arouse antagonism and discussion will be clear and easily accepted a little further on.”
Taking classes at Unity is not about us telling you what to believe. Charles Fillmore, co-founder of Unity, found no merit in people repeating what he said. Coming together as a group is an opportunity to open ourselves to new possibilities and discover what the still small voice within our very soul has to teach us about spiritual principle.
Here at Unity we offer a variety of classes on spiritual principles and how to apply them in your life. Often our classes require a book in order to participate in the discussion. If there is a hardship in acquiring the book, and you would like to take the class, please see me: we may be able to work something out.
We do not charge for our classes; rather, we offer them on a Love Offering basis. A love offering is an opportunity to give in response to what you have received. Love offerings are gratefully accepted but never required.
We are a spiritual community that is based on spiritual education, prayer and healing. We’d love to see you in class.
Please watch our website: www.unityprescott.org and the Sunday Highlights for information on upcoming classes.
Grace Filled Blessings,
Rev. Charli
