Chaplains

WHO, WHAT, HOW…. UNITY OF PRESCOTT PRAYER CHAPLAINS

Every Sunday morning during announcements, Rev Tom introduces the Pastoral Care Team Member and Chaplain that are available for prayer support following the service. Sometimes I am asked, “what is the difference between the Pastoral Care Team and Prayer Chaplains?”

These two programs are Unity’s prayer ministries. The Pastoral Care Team prays for everyone on the monthly prayer list. Anyone can be on the list, and if there is a prayer request, you are encouraged to call the church office to be put on the list. They also do a number of other pastoral care duties such as visitation, phone calls and writing notes to those who are home bound or could use a little extra T.L.C.

Chaplains are members of the church who have gone through a training to empower them to be a prayerful presence for this congregation. What do Unity Prayer Chaplains do?

•Hold sacred space and pray for members of this congregation who are on their assigned list by making wellness calls.
•Make home and hospital visits as necessary.
•Participate with the Pastoral Care Team in providing Sunday service prayer support.
•Participate with the Pastoral Care Team by assisting with the prayer vigil we hold here in our sanctuary on World Day of Prayer.
•Participate with the Pastoral Care Team in facilitating the World Peace Meditation at 5:00 AM on December 31 every other year. We share this responsibility with the Center for Spiritual Living.
•Attend monthly meetings that are designed both for connection and education.

Each year the Chaplains participate in an extensive training that was designed by Rev. Lei Lanni Burt. This program is used within many of the Unity Churches as a support to the ministers and members. A Prayer Chaplain completes 50 hours of annual training and makes the commitment to serve this community for one year.

Being a Prayer Chaplain is transformative soul work as it deepens their spiritual path through prayer and service. No prior experience in prayer or praying with others is required to serve as a Prayer Chaplain.

For more information on serving as a Unity Prayer Chaplain please contact Rev. Charli Tupper.  Our next training is scheduled for May.

We are proud and excited to have Unity Chaplains available to serve our members. Chaplains are dedicated individuals who hold a spiritual space, are loving listeners, hold in confidence what they hear, and are available to pray with you.

One of the aspects of our Chaplain Program is the privilege to offer monthly “wellness calls” to our active members. Each 3- to 5-minute call is for the purpose of supporting you in prayer for yourself or for a loved one. Your Chaplain will also be pleased to support you in prayers of gratitude for the blessings of your life.
