Prosperity Corner — A Word from the Board
I am treasurer of the Board of Trustees of Unity and I was deeply gratified to see how the congregation responded when Reverend Tom mentioned late last fall that our expenses were exceeding our income and threatening our capital reserves. You responded wonderfully in December and we actually ended the year with a small surplus. You are a loving and giving congregation and we are blessed.
Unity is “A Positive Path for Spiritual Living” and operate on a budget of approximately $350,000. Salaries and benefits account for about 64% of that, facilities and operating expenses nearly 25%. We tithe 10% to worthy charitable organizations in harmony with our goals. Our income: over 90% is from gifts, memorials, fundraising and love offerings. If you are interested in more details about our budget see Sandy Profrock in the church office.
I would like to shine a small spot light on Unity’s Planned Giving program. Planned giving is a set of estate-planning tools that allow donors to make larger gifts than they normally could from their income. Planned giving can be made during your lifetime, or in a will, or as part of overall financial and estate planning. One example is a “Charitable Gift Annuity” which enables you to receive an annual payment for as long as you live, in addition to a charitable tax deduction. If interested, pick up a Planned Giving folder in the office and discuss it with your financial advisor.
As many of you know, board member Bob Simpson had to resign from the board as he moved out of the area. On a recommendation from our nominating committee the Board has selected Terry Barnes to serve out Bob’s term on the Board. Welcome aboard Terry. We know that you will be a great addition to our Board.
Blessings,
Chuck Dann
